Introduction
Along Zhenshi Street heading downhill, go towards JianShe Street at a three-way intersection. Follow the downhill road and you will find yourself on Maxue Street, the location where Dr. Mackay started practicing medicine - the Hobe Mackay Clinic. Established on September 14th, 1879, the Hobe Mackay Clinic was the first Western-style hospital in Taiwan, led by Reverend Dr. Mackay and serving as his residence. With a unique architectural style that blends Chinese and Western elements, the exterior features a traditional Minnan-style bungalow with Western-style arched windows. Inside, there are still preserved surgical tables, medicine bottles, and other medical tools used during that time. In addition, there is a small café within the clinic where visitors can take a break, have a cup of coffee, and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the streets of Tamsui.
