Introduction
Aletheia University is a private university in Taiwan founded by the Presbyterian Church. Its predecessor was Tamsui Institute of Business Administration. The name "Aletheia" comes from the Greek word for "truth" and aims to cultivate students' pursuit and exploration of truth.
In 1872, Canadian Presbyterian missionary George Leslie Mackay arrived in Tamsui and built a school building on the current campus (now Aletheia University Tamsui Campus) for missionary, educational, and medical purposes. In 1882, after the completion of the school building, Mackay named the school Oxford College, in gratitude for the donations from the local residents. The Chinese name for the school is "Li Xuetang College", commonly known as "Oxford College".
Aletheia University is located in the beautiful area of Tamsui, with on-campus buildings including Mackay's former residence (also known as the Little White House), the Missionary's Hall (now converted into a restaurant), the former site of Li Xuetang College (now the University History Museum), and the Red House, among other Western-style buildings, which are available for visits.
