Introduction

The Golden Shrine was built during the Japanese colonial era and served as one of the central places of worship in Japan. It is dedicated to the deities Okuninushi no Mikoto, Kanayamahiko no Mikoto, and Sarutahiko no Mikoto. Only two torii gates, one flag stand, four stone lanterns, and the remains of the main hall have survived. These structures were once important buildings of the shrine, including the approach, sleeping quarters, assembly hall, and main hall. After Taiwan's retrocession, the shrine was damaged. There are not many preserved Japanese-style shrines in Taiwan, so the cultural value of the Golden Shrine is immeasurable.
