Introduction

Su Shulou, located on the hill of Dongwu University, is the former residence of the master of Confucianism, Mr. Qian Mu. It is not far from the Palace Museum. In 1956, Mr. Qian and his wife returned to Taiwan from Hong Kong and settled in Waishuangxi. They named their residence Su Shulou to commemorate his mother, who had lived in "Su Shu Tang" in the five-generation ancestral home of Qifangqiao in Wuxi. Under the efforts of the couple, every brick, stone, grass, and tree in Su Shulou witnessed the hard work of the owner over the years. The maple tree in the courtyard and the camellia planted by Mrs. Qian herself in the garden are all touching details. The following year, Mr. Qian was hired as a professor at the Graduate Institute of History, and his living room became his classroom for graduate students. As a result, Su Shulou became an important cultural site in Taipei at that time.
