Introduction

Guandu Temple is located on Zhixing Road in Beitou District, Taipei City. It is the oldest Ma Zu Temple in Northern Taiwan that blends the cultural characteristics of Buddhism and Taoism, and is a place of religious belief. Guandu Temple, along with the other two major Ma Zu Temples in Taiwan - Tian Hou Temple in Lugang and Chaotian Temple in Beigang are collectively referred to as the Three Great Ma Zu Temples in Taiwan, attracting numerous worshippers. Guandu Temple was founded in 1661 AD on the top of Ling Mountain, originally known as Ling Shan Temple. Later, it was relocated to the current site after three renovations in the 17th year of Jiaqing, and a plaque reading "Guandu Ancestral Temple" was hung. In 1921, the temple underwent major renovations and was renamed Guandu Temple. On the 23rd day of the third lunar month, Guandu Temple's main festival is held, and during the Lantern Festival and Ghost Festival, grand ritual activities are also held at Guandu Temple. Therefore, worshippers and tourists from all over the world flock to Guandu Temple at any time. In addition, the temple is surrounded by a variety of street food and vendors, driving huge revenue for the tourism industry and attracting many visitors every year.
