Introduction
The National Museum of History is another national museum in Taiwan that focuses on Chinese historical artifacts, in addition to the National Palace Museum. It is the first national museum established in Taiwan and also serves as a venue for major special exhibitions. The museum's collection includes over 50,000 items, mostly consisting of artifacts originally from the Henan Museum and war looted items returned by Japan from the Sino-Japanese War. The artifacts span a wide range of time, mostly from the ancient period starting from the Shang Dynasty, including bronze wares, pre-Qin cord-marked pottery, Han Dynasty green-glazed pottery, Six Dynasties dancing and music figurines, and Tang Dynasty tri-colored pottery. In recent years, the museum has also exhibited works by Western art masters.
The museum is located within the Botanical Garden, which was originally a tropical horticultural experimental station during the period of Japanese rule and features over 2,000 different plant species, offering splendid scenery.
Across from the Botanical Garden is the renowned Jianguo High School in Taiwan, one of the top schools for boys, alongside the famous Beiyi Girls' High School. In front of Jianguo High School, there is a bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek. During graduation season, graduating students often play pranks on the statue, such as transforming it into a magician or an astronaut, which has become a tradition of the school.
