Introduction

228 Peace Memorial Park in Taipei City is a historic urban park, originally known as Taipei Park or New Park. It was established in the 25th year of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of nearly a century. The park covers an area of 71,520 square meters and is located between Xiangyang Road to the north, Ketagalan Boulevard to the south, Huaining Street to the west, and Park Road to the east. It is adjacent to important institutions or buildings such as the office of Taiwan's highest leader, Taipei General Hospital, and Taipei Guest House. In 1996, the 228 Peace Memorial Monument was unveiled in the park, led by then-mayor Chen Shui-bian, and the park was renamed 228 Peace Memorial Park. During the day, it is a great place for family outings, and the interesting squirrels are particularly captivating. At night, the park becomes one of the social gathering places for the LGBTQ+ community, commonly referred to as the "company," and it holds a traditional status in the community. If you cannot accept this, it is best to avoid the park at night.
