Introduction

Beppu has many hot springs, among which the Beppu Hells are the most famous. These eight hells are: Sea Hell, Oniishi Bozu Hell, Mountain Hell, Kamado Hell, Oniyama Hell, Shiraike Jigoku (White Pond Hell), Chinoike Jigoku (Blood Pond Hell), and Tatsumaki Jigoku (Tornado Hell). Among them, it is said that Kamado Hell has been used for cooking ceremonial food since a long time ago. Therefore, the local custom named it "Kamado Hell". The temperature of this hot spring is as high as 90 degrees, and the intense fountain and high-temperature hot spring are stunning. However, there is a slight salty taste in the hot spring water here, which is also one of its unique characteristics.
