Introduction

Jakarta Cathedral, a Catholic church, was built in the late 19th century and opened in 1901. The church is built in the Neo-Gothic architectural style popular in continental Europe in the 19th century and is a historically and culturally significant building. Located near the Presidential Palace and the former Governor's Palace, it has become one of the iconic buildings in Jakarta. In the early 19th century, Catholic missionaries built a church here. However, on July 27, 1826, this building and 180 surrounding houses were burned down. The faithful began rebuilding the church, but in 1890, it collapsed. With unwavering determination, the church members finally built the impressive church that stands today, becoming a renowned landmark in Jakarta.
