Introduction
National Monument, located in the city center of Jakarta, is a symbol of Indonesian patriotism. Built in 1959 and completed in 1968, it stands at a height of 137 meters with a 35-kilogram sculpture of a torch at the top, representing the determination of the Indonesian people to fight for independence. The reliefs on the monument depict the heroic actions of the Indonesian people in resisting Dutch colonial rule. The monument is surrounded by fountains, pools, and statues of national heroines.
The basement of the monument is a museum showcasing precious artifacts, sculptures, and paintings related to the history of Indonesian independence before 1945.
