Introduction

The Mustar old town is located in a deep valley that spans the Neretva River, with a history that dates back to 1442. It preserves many ancient Turkish-style buildings and old bridges, including stone arch bridges, prisons, umbrella workshops, restaurants, and other monuments. Whether looking east or west, the valley's scenery remains magnificent, with clear and green river water, and the old city is simple and authentic. The distant Martyrs' Cemetery houses more than 600 soldiers who sacrificed themselves for national independence. The most famous attraction in Mostar is the "Old Bridge" (Stari Most), built in 1566, which was intentionally destroyed during the Bosnian War on November 9, 1993. The story behind the bridge is thought-provoking: on the west side of the city, there are Croatian Catholics, while on the east side, there are Bosnian Muslims. These two communities are hostile to each other due to their different faiths. Although there are churches or mosques on both sides, coexistence has remained unachievable for more than four hundred years. During the war, soldiers destroyed the bridge, altering history and severing the connection between the eastern and western worlds. Despite the ravages of war, the Mostar old town still retains its subtlety and charm, attracting travelers from all over the world to explore and discover.
