Introduction
Independence Square, located on the northern coast of the capital, is the political gathering center of the Maldives. A striking flagpole stands tall, with a huge national flag hanging atop. Surrounding the square are a series of political institutions, including the police headquarters inside the Shihabudeen Hussein Adam Building and the barracks of the Maldives National Defense Force. In addition, the former presidential dock is also located in front of the square, as well as the nearby Islamic Center. Transportation Take a boat and walk for 5 minutes at the airport.
