Introduction

The Galle area has two famous beaches: Unawatuna to the south and Hikkaduwa Beach, located 10 kilometers north of the city. Hikkaduwa is one of the earliest developed tourist areas in Sri Lanka and is also one of the most popular holiday destinations. Rated as one of the top ten snorkeling beaches in the world, Hikkaduwa is also renowned globally for surfing and diving. The stunning beach culture and charming sea views here attract countless tourists. Hikkaduwa is well-equipped with tourist facilities, offering a variety of restaurants, shops, and hotels. Additionally, there are water activities such as surfing, diving, and whale watching for visitors to choose from. Hikkaduwa can also be reached by the coastal railway from Colombo to the town.

Transportation
Hikkaduwa is located between Colombo and Galle, and there are busy buses passing through here every day. However, Hikkaduwa bus station is a 15-minute walk from the coastal area, and you can ask to get off at the coastal area when taking a bus. In addition, several trains pass through Hikkaduwa every day, and Hikkaduwa train station is located north of the long-distance bus station. You can take any bus heading in that direction and pay 20 rupees to reach the coastal area by bus.
