Introduction
Gal Vihara is a sacred site carved by an unknown artist on a giant granite rock, including three large Buddha statues and a shrine connected together. These three statues symbolize the pinnacle of ancient Sri Lankan art, majestic and intricately carved. Gal Vihara is also the liveliest place in the ancient city, attracting countless devotees. Among them, the reclining Buddha measures 14 meters long and depicts the scene of Buddha's parinirvana, portraying a peaceful entry into the blissful world and carrying profound symbolic meanings. The strong aesthetic appeal and monumental figures of these statues captivate visitors, making it difficult to let go and unforgettable even long after leaving. To protect these precious stone statues from damage, the Sri Lankan government has erected a metal fence.
