Introduction

Udawattakele, also known as "the garden above the palace," is a historic forest reserve in the northern part of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is said that ancient Buddhist Emperor sought refuge here. Udawattakele is renowned for its abundant bird species (over 80 types) and serves as a habitat for unique birds such as porcupines, deer, Sri Lankan woodpeckers, Sri Lankan hanging parrots, and grey-headed thrush. The reserve boasts diverse vegetation and a large population of mammals, making it an important learning site for children to study natural sciences in Sri Lanka. It is also a significant Buddhist meditation center, housing an ancient Brahmin meditation cave. While Udawattakele may not be well-known to Chinese tourists, the number of Chinese visitors to this area has been gradually increasing in recent years.
