Matsue Castle, A Timeless Castle with Majestic Charm

Introduction

Matsue Castle stands tall on the northern shore of Lake Shinji, and it is one of the twelve remaining original castles in the San'in region of Japan. Built in 1607, it has a history of 500 years. Although Matsue Castle has not experienced any wars, most of its buildings were demolished due to the Meiji Restoration's castle abolition order, leaving only some stone walls and the main keep. The main keep of Matsue Castle is quite magnificent, with roof eaves resembling spreading wings of a bird, exuding a regal pride, which is why it is named the "Chidori Castle".
