Introduction

Beppu's Eight Hells is a collection of eight unique hot spring sites in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, Japan. These sites are considered treasures for experiencing hot springs. Visitors can enjoy different types of hot springs with distinctive features that are hard to find elsewhere. These spots are called "hells" because they are often covered in steam, giving them a mystical and eerie appearance reminiscent of the underworld in mythology.

Open 7 days a week from 8:00 to 17:00, all year round.
Transportation
Take bus routes 2, 5, or 24 from Beppu Station's West Exit towards Tetsurin, and get off at the "before Jingoku-hama" stop. The entrance to the Sea Hell will be directly across from the stop, with the Oniishibozu Hell and Yama Jigoku on either side. It is recommended to visit in the order of Sea Hell, Oniishibozu Hell, and Yama Jigoku. There are two entrances to the Yama Jigoku; enter from the one closest to the Sea Hell entrance and exit from the other entrance to get to the Kamado Hell entrance. After exiting, walk a few steps across the street to enter the Oni Mountain Hell. After leaving, walk down the hill for 1 minute to reach the Shiraike Jigoku. After the tour, exit and turn right, continue down the hill and turn left at the first intersection to reach a bus stop. From there, take route 16 to visit the Blood Pond Hell and the Tornado Hell just minutes away. Return to Beppu Station's West Exit by taking the same route 16 bus.
