Introduction

Nagasaki's Nishizaka Hill offers stunning views of the city's harbor and is home to many historic Western-style buildings. Among them, the Glover Residence is Japan's oldest surviving wooden Western-style building, constructed by a British trader named Thomas Blake Glover. The residence is recognized as a part of the Meiji Industrial Heritage and is a designated World Cultural Heritage site. Additionally, Nishizaka Hill was also the site of Japan's first tennis courts.
