Introduction

Shuri Kinjocho Ishidate Road is a stone-paved ancient road in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, which used to be part of the Pearl Road. The Pearl Road was built in 1522 and served as an official road connecting Shuri Castle and Kuniyoshi River, spanning 10 kilometers. During the Battle of Okinawa, most of the Pearl Road was destroyed, except for the 238-meter section within Kinjocho, which is known as Shuri Kinjocho Ishidate Road today. The road surface of this ancient path is paved with Ryukyuan limestone, which has gained a glossy appearance over the years. Along the way, there are stone walls dating back to the Second Sho Dynasty, showcasing the beauty and grandeur of the ancient road. Today, it is designated as a historic site by Okinawa Prefecture and selected as one of Japan's scenic roads.
