Shureimon, A Symbol of Ryukyu Kingdom's Spirit and Civility

Introduction
The Shureimon Gate, originally known as "Ue no Ryumon Gate," is located at the eastern end of the Asato Street. It is also known as the "Gate of Courtesy" and bears the inscription "Country of Courtesy." The Shureimon Gate is a three-bay, four-pillar, double-eaved gable-roof gate with red-tiled roof. The original structure was destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. The current building was reconstructed in 1958. The Shureimon Gate was designated as a cultural asset of Okinawa Prefecture in 1972.
