Introduction

The Kushida Shrine is the center of faith for the people in the Fukuoka area. Every July, Fukuoka's most famous festival, the Yamakasa Gion Matsuri, begins here. During the festival, the most striking event is the chasing of the Yamakasa on July 15th. This scene has a special charm that is breathtaking. You can not only admire the decorative Yamakasa that are permanently displayed within the shrine but also appreciate the ancient ginkgo tree that symbolizes the thousand-year history of the Kushida Shrine. These sights are extremely magnificent and worth seeing.
