Introduction
In 1585, Ivan IV (also known as "Ivan the Terrible") funded the construction of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin in the center of the Holy Trinity Monastery, as a form of repentance for killing his own son. The cathedral features four blue onion-shaped domes and a central golden dome modeled after the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin in the Moscow Kremlin.
