Introduction
Kamogawa is an artificial river located in Kyoto, Japan. It starts branching out from the downstream of Kawaramachi-dori Ni-jo and forms a branch of Kamo River, eventually merging with Uji River. It is 10 km long, 7 meters wide and was built in 1611. Kamogawa once flourished in water transportation between Kyoto and Fushimi, with nine docks available for loading and unloading goods. In addition, Kamogawa was also one of the inspirations for Mori Ogai's "Kamogawa Boat". The source of Kamogawa at Ichinobune-iri on Kawaramachi-dori Ni-jo is marked by a stone monument and is therefore designated as a national historic site.
