Introduction

Gokuraku-ji Temple, also known as Motoyuki-ji, is a temple located in Nara, Japan. It was built in the 6th century AD and was originally named Hokei-ji, established by the Japanese statesman Soga no Umako. In the 8th century, there used to be a five-story pagoda here, but it was destroyed in a fire in 1859. After centuries of wind and rain, the existing Gokuraku-ji Temple was listed as a World Heritage site in 1999, becoming part of the cultural heritage of Nara, the ancient capital.
