Introduction

Ikeno Garden is a traditional Japanese garden located on the west side of the main gate of Todai-ji Temple in Nara, the ancient capital of Japan. The garden covers an area of 13,481 square meters and consists of a front garden and a rear garden. The rear garden, built in 1899, features a water pond, small hills, and a clear stream, with various trees and rare plants scattered throughout. The garden also features several traditional buildings such as Yagorou, Byakko-ro, and Teishu-en, which are adorned with traditional thatched roofs made of reeds or cypress bark, complementing the natural beauty of the garden. The rear garden is recognized as a masterpiece of garden design from the Meiji era and has been designated as a national scenic spot. Visitors can enjoy the serene natural scenery and exquisite architecture, immersing themselves in the unique charm of ancient Nara.
