Introduction

The Tennoji Zoo, located at the south gate of Osaka, occupies more than half of the area on the west side of Tennoji Park, covering over 100,000 square meters. The zoo houses more than 900 animals, encompassing about 230 species, including koalas, raccoons, elephants, and Japan's only kiwi bird. To help people better understand the relationship between animal habitats and natural ecology, and to strengthen environmental awareness, the zoo added a reptile house in 1995 and opened a hippo house in 1997. Here, visitors can observe hippos' underwater living conditions up close for the first time. The Osaka Amazing Pass allows for free entry.
