Introduction

Rakushisha is a villa built by Mukai Kyorai, a disciple of the famous haiku master Matsuo Basho, during the Edo period in Japan. When Kyorai lived here, the surroundings were filled with persimmon trees. After a stormy night, all the ripe persimmons fell heavily to the ground. Since then, this villa has been called Rakushisha.
