Introduction

Located in the northwest of Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Kozanji Temple is an independent temple of the Shingon sect. Although the construction of the temple began in the Nara period, it was actually founded by the famous monk Myoe of the Kamakura period. The temple houses a vast collection of valuable cultural artifacts, including paintings, scriptures, and documents. The bird and animal paintings are particularly famous.
