Introduction

Mount Koya is located in the northern part of Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. With its majestic mountains, lush forests, and surrounded by peaks, it is the birthplace and main temple of the Shingon sect of Japanese esoteric Buddhism. The temple buildings here have a unique style. It is worth mentioning that some temples in Mount Koya offer accommodation, allowing visitors to experience the lifestyle of monks. Okunoin is the mausoleum of Kukai, one of the most respected figures in Japanese religious history, who vowed not to enter Nirvana. It is said that he is still meditating in the Okunoin of Mount Koya. This spiritual place is also one of Japan's largest cemeteries and one of the holy places for pilgrimage, widely popular among visitors.
