Introduction
The Penang Khoo Kongsi is a renowned Chinese clanhouse in Penang, Malaysia. It was built in 1853 and took several decades to complete, finally finished in 1898. Despite encountering setbacks, the building still retains its grand and majestic presence. On the day of its completion, however, the roof suddenly caught fire. Some believe it was because the building was too extravagant, resembling a palace, which went against superstitious beliefs. The Khoo clan, however, interpreted it as a sign from above and decided to simplify the architectural design.
The Penang Khoo Kongsi was once a hub for the Khoo clan and holds significant historical importance. The interior of the clanhouse is beautifully decorated, earning it recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Address 18 Cannon Square, Georgetown, 10300 Penang, Malaysia
