Introduction

The mosque was initially built by Indian Muslim traders, and it was made of wood. It was constructed in 1748 and later underwent a brick reconstruction in 1872, giving it its current appearance. This mosque is one of the traditional mosques in Malacca, blending various cultural styles. Its unique design combines elements of Sumatran, Chinese, Hindu, and Malay styles, with its pagoda-like minaret, ablution pool, and arches built simultaneously with the main structure. Please note that this mosque should not be confused with the Masjid Kampung Hulu, which is located a few blocks away. The latter also has a similar pagoda-like minaret, but they are two different places.
