Introduction

The Qingyun Pavilion is the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia, built in the 15th century. The temple has a memorial plaque commemorating the first visit of the Ming Dynasty ambassador Zheng He to Malacca. Building materials and craftsmen were imported from China. The roof is decorated with glass and porcelain clay depicting mysterious Chinese animals. The temple has three altars for Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. For centuries, besides its role in worship and community ties, the Qingyun Pavilion has also served as a court and arbitration institution for the Chinese community.
