Introduction

Christ Church Melaka, located in the Red Square, is one of the must-see landmarks in Melaka. Built in 1753, this Dutch-style building was constructed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Dutch colonization in Melaka. The striking red exterior and prime location of the church make it one of the most prominent buildings in Melaka, drawing numerous visitors daily. Once inside the church, you will immediately feel its solemn atmosphere. The interior features handcrafted pews that are over two hundred years old. The church's beams are made of tree trunks. The brass pulpit, the floor with Dutch inscriptions, and the "Last Supper" painting made from tiles all reflect the historical significance of the church. However, like Melaka itself, the church has also experienced changes. After the British took over Melaka, they attempted to remodel it into a British-style building, adding a weather vane and a bell tower. Nevertheless, Christ Church Melaka still maintains its unique historical charm and remains a respected and admired structure.
