Introduction

Admiral Yi Sun-sin is a famous general in Korean history. During the Japanese invasion of the Korean Peninsula in the Joseon Dynasty, he led his troops to fight against the invaders and achieved a great victory in the Battle of Myeongnyang. Today, there is a bronze statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin standing in the city square, surrounded by an artificial lotus pond and a "12·23 Fountain". The number 12 represents the 12 warships that Admiral Yi Sun-sin led to defeat 133 Japanese ships, while 23 signifies his successful victories in 23 battles. The square's two sides are known as the "River of History", with the east side showcasing the history of Korea since its founding in 1392, while the opposite side is reserved for future generations to write. Admiral Yi Sun-sin is one of the highly respected heroes in Korean history.
