Introduction

Independence Gate is located in Independence Park, Seoul, South Korea, and was built to commemorate the defeat of the Qing Dynasty in the Sino-Japanese War and the independence of Korea from Qing rule. The gate is 14.28 meters high and 11.48 meters wide, constructed with 1,850 granite blocks, and modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. The gate was moved to its current location in 1979, 70 meters northwest of its original site.
