Introduction

Gyeonghui Palace, a minor royal palace, was built in 1616 and located on the west side of Seoul's five grand palaces, hence its nickname "West Palace." Gyeonghui Palace was once connected to Deoksugung Palace by a rainbow bridge. The site of the palace was designated as Historic Site No. 271 by the government of the Republic of Korea. In 1980, Gyeonghui Palace began to be used as the Seoul Metropolitan Museum of Art and several destroyed buildings were restored. Gyeonghui University and Seoul National University of Science and Technology are both named after Gyeonghui Palace.
