Introduction
Ruiyi Island Park is located in the center of Seoul and is a large-scale recreational area. Initially, it was an asphalt square mainly used for cyclists and roller skaters. In 1997, Ruiyi Island Park began construction as part of the initiative to "give the citizens a green space" and reopened to the public in February 1999. Today, it has become a precious green leisure space in the city center, where people can walk, exercise, and enjoy various cultural performances.
The park features themes such as Korean traditional forests, grass lawns, cultural courtyards, and natural ecological forests. The "Korean Traditional Forest" is adorned with traditional Korean trees, with a lotus pond, octagonal pavilion, and winding paths, showcasing the style of Korean gardens. The "Grass Lawn" is a lush lawn with a beautiful winding pathway, surrounded by evergreen and deciduous trees. The "Cultural Courtyard" is a place for various performances and gatherings, with interconnected zelkova trees on both sides. The "Natural Ecological Forest" attracts more attention, as the ecological lotus pond and forest provide an opportunity for city dwellers to get close to nature in the urban area.
Another must-visit attraction near the National Assembly in Ruiyi Island is the Cherry Blossom Road. Along the 6-kilometer-long street, cherry blossoms bloom, making this street a true cherry blossom corridor. Every spring, many tourists come to Ruiyi Island Park to admire the cherry blossoms.
