Introduction
The millennium ancient salt fields located in Yantian Village on the Hainan Yangpu Peninsula have recently been opened as a tourist attraction. This approximately 750-acre ancient salt field has a history of more than 1200 years and is said to have been relocated by salt workers from Putian, Fujian. The salt workers used the high temperature and strong sun of Hainan Island to innovate the method of salt production, abandoning the method of "boiling sea for salt" and instead using sun-dried beach sand to filter seawater to make brine with high salt content. They poured the brine into stone troughs and sun-dried it into salt. The salt here has a delicious taste and has the effect of treating various diseases. When Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty learned about it, he gave the name "Zhengde" to the salt field people. Today, this is the only ancient salt field in the country that retains the original sun-drying salt production method, with more than 1000 different types of inkstone-style salt troughs and an annual output of 500 tons. There are still more than 30 salt workers who work here every day following the ancient way of working for more than 1200 years. The Yangpu millennium ancient salt field is known as the earliest salt field to use sun-drying for salt production and is also a tourist attraction south of the New Yingwan District Office, with viewing and archaeological value.
