Introduction

The Shengtang Catholic Church is an ancient Gothic building, representing the typical style of the French Renaissance. As one of the four major Catholic churches in late Qing Dynasty, the church's stone materials are all from natural resources of coral, rocks and limestone in Weizhou Island, making its architectural skills unique. The influence of old Shanghai in the 1920s can be seen from the appearance of the church, and a quiet and contemplative atmosphere can be felt when entering the church. The surrounding alleys preserve the original architecture and way of life of Weizhou Island, allowing people to experience the slow life of old Weizhou Island.
