Introduction

Gu Jian was a literary artist in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties. He was the pioneer of Kunqu Opera and called himself a "wandering scholar of romance and beauty." He was a member of the Kunshan Qiandeng Festival and also a student of the imperial academy. He excelled in Southern literature and had a talent for writing ancient prose. This memorial hall was built to honor him and took several years to construct.
