Introduction

Dongting Lake is one of the five largest freshwater lakes in China. Its area is nearly 19,000 square kilometers, including a 1,200 square kilometer inner lake. It is a well-known production area with abundant biological resources including carp, grass carp, bream, catfish, and silver fish, which is a famous local speciality. There are also over 40 different types of shellfish in the lake. In addition, Dongting Lake is well-known for producing ramie, Junshan tea and Xiang lotus, which are famous both in China and abroad.
