Introduction

Penglai Water Fortress, located beneath Penglai Pavilion, is one of the best preserved ancient naval bases in China. It witnessed Qi Jiguang leading his fleet to fight against Japanese pirates. The main facilities of the water fortress are divided into harbor facilities and defensive facilities. The former includes wave-breaking embankment, water gates, wave-abating terrace, and wharf, while the latter features the ancient city wall, battery, enemy platform, water gate, moat, barracks, and command post. Beiyudusi Mansion, as the largest restored ancient architectural complex, is the first Ming Dynasty military commander's office for sea defense in China. Visitors can take a carriage to circle around the small sea and watch Qi's army set off and Qi's Fist performance in front of Beiyudusi Mansion.
