Introduction

After centuries of historical accumulation, the Shaolin Temple Library, also known as the Dharma Hall, is located on the central axis of the Shaolin Temple's Mahavira Hall. It is a hall where senior monks impart Buddhist teachings and store precious Buddhist scriptures. In the hall, there were many treasures such as the Damo Stone, Buddhist instruments, and over 5,000 volumes of Buddhist scriptures, including the Ming Dynasty Tripitaka. Unfortunately, in 1928, the hall was set on fire by Shi You San, and many sutras, martial arts books, and Damo Stone sculptures were destroyed. Only 14 stone pillars and the foundation of the hall remained. Today, the Shaolin Temple Library houses tens of thousands of volumes of books such as the "Chinese Tripitaka," "Dragon Tripitaka," "Taisho Tripitaka," and "Korean Tripitaka." According to inscriptions, the hall was established during the Yuan Dynasty (1341-1368). In order to preserve its historical and cultural value, the hall was reconstructed according to its original appearance from 1992 to 1993 and is now open to the public.
