Introduction

The Miluo River originates from XiuShui County, Jiangxi Province, with a total length of 253 kilometers. The river is divided into two branches, the Mishui and Luoshui, and is the largest tributary of the Xiang River in northern Hunan. The houses on both sides blend with peach blossoms and green willows, and the sediments in the water create a typical view of the water town in the south of the Yangtze River and a simple folk customs. This river is famous mainly because of the story of Qu Yuan. It is said that when the Chu capital of Ying was taken by the Qin army, Qu Yuan felt hopeless and jumped into the Miluo River. Afterwards, the people along the river searched for him in boats, and this tradition evolved into the dragon boat race held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year to commemorate this great patriot Qu Yuan.
