Introduction

Qiao Garden is located in the old city area of Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, China (68 Hailing North Road). It was first built during the Ming Dynasty (1573-1620) and was originally named Rishou Garden, which was a private garden of Chen Yingfang, an official of the Imperial Household Department. Its name comes from a poem by Tao Qian, a literary figure in the Jin Dynasty, that reads "A garden is made enjoyable by passing every day through its paths". There are three stone peaks in the garden which were renamed Sanfeng Garden during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, and it was briefly renamed Zhe Garden. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the garden became the property of Qiao Songnian, who was the salt transport commissioner of the Huai River and Yangtze River region, and it was renamed Qiao Garden.
