Introduction
Kengkou, also known as Longchuan, is a historic Huizhou village located about 10 kilometers from Jixi County. It has formed a unique natural and cultural landscape due to its geographical environment and cultural background and is now a historical and cultural protection zone in Anhui Province. The terrain of Kengkou is shaped like a ship, with Longxu Mountain to the east, Longchuan to the south, Fengguan Xiufeng to the west, and towering mountains to the north, making for a beautiful landscape. In 337, Hu Yan moved here for good fengshui.
Kengkou is not only known for its natural beauty but also for its talented people and culture. The Hu family of Kengkou has had talented individuals in every generation, and they are renowned for having produced many Jinshi. During the Ming Dynasty, Kengkou was known for producing many Jinshi, including over 10 individuals. The most famous of which were Hu Fu and Hu Zongxian. The area has several protected cultural sites, such as the national-level cultural relic protection unit "Longchuan Hu Ancestral Shrine," the provincial-level cultural relic protection unit "Yishi Shangshu Archway," and the county-level cultural relic protection units "Hu Bingheng Residence" and "Hu Zongxian Former Residence."
The Longxu Mountain on the east side of Kengkou is famous for its production of longxu grass, the raw material used for papermaking. There are strange pines and rocks, rare birds and beasts, rugged mountain roads, waterfalls, and springs on the mountain. On the mountain top, there are Dragon Terrace Cliff, Shimen Dongtian, Xianren Stone House, and Yunya Shiti; on the mountainside and at the foot of the mountain are Longfeng Zen Temple, Guqiao Temple, and Mountain An. There are also the tombs of Hu Zongxian and Hu Fu. Kengkou is an ideal place for cultural tourism, eco-tourism, and religious tourism.
