Introduction

There is a place called Taiqing Palace located 5 kilometers east of Luyi County. It is one of the birthplaces of Laozi, a famous ancient Chinese philosopher and founder of Daoism, formerly known as Lixiang Qurenli. Laozi, whose surname was Li and his given name was Er, was also known in later generations as Dan. He was born in the late Spring and Autumn Period in Qurenli, Kuxian, Chu State, now known as Taiqing Palace Township in Luyi County. In the Daoist doctrine, Taiqing represents the Wei Tian Dao, or the sky, and it is said that immortals reside in it, thus Daoist temples are often named after it.
