Introduction

In 1420, one of the three major palaces in the Outer Court of the Forbidden City, Baohe Palace, was built. The palace is paved with golden bricks and has a splendid dragon throne with carved lacquer and gold. Golden dragons and seals are painted on the eaves, and the ceiling is made of lacquer and gold dragons. The decoration and furnishings are mainly in red, making it appear luxurious and grand. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the use of Baohe Palace was different. Ming emperors often changed clothes here, while Qing emperors held family banquets and palace exams on New Year's Eve and the fifteenth day of the first lunar month.
