Helan Mountains, A Majestic Tapestry of Nature's Solitude

4.9

Introduction

The Helan Mountain range is about 220 kilometers long from north to south and 20 to 40 kilometers wide from east to west. The southern end of the mountains is gentle, while the northern section from Sangguankou rises to heights of 2000 to 3000 meters above sea level, with the tallest peak named Helan Mountain reaching around 3556 meters above sea level. The western side of the mountain area gradually becomes flat, while the eastern side is steep, with the presence of fault zones near the plains of Yinchuan. This is one of the strong earthquake zones, with an 8.0 magnitude earthquake occurring nearby in 1739 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes occurring in Zhongning and Zhongwei in 1561 and 1709 respectively. The northern section of Helan Mountain is rich in coal mines, and in recent years, the Helan Mountain Coal Industry Base has been established. In addition, the Baolan Railway has a branch line passing through Pingluo and extending to Ruji Gou in Helan Mountain.
