Introduction

Xi Yue Temple is located on Yuezhen Street in the northern part of Mount Hua, and is a temple dedicated to the god Xi Yue Dai Di of Mount Hua. The temple was built during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty and has been the place for emperors to worship the god of Mount Hua. The temple faces north and sits south, with the temple gate facing Mount Hua. Along the central axis are Haoling Gate, Five Phoenix Tower, Lingxing Gate, Jincheng Gate, Haoling Hall, Bedroom, Imperial Study Building, and Wanshou Pavilion. The entire building has a front low and back high layout. The Five Phoenix Tower is built on a high platform and is over 20 meters high, providing a view of the five peaks of Mount Hua from the top of the tower. The main hall, Haoling Hall, is built with glazed tiles and has a single-eave gable roof, sitting on a wide "convex" moon-shaped platform. The main hall has a width of 7 rooms and a depth of 5 rooms, with a surrounding corridor. Emperors of various dynasties would worship the god of Mount Hua here. The original wooden pillars from the establishment era are still preserved in the main hall, and three plaques inscribed by Emperor Tongzhi, Emperor Guangxu, and Empress Dowager Cixi are still hanging here. The whole courtyard of Xi Yue Temple has a garden atmosphere, with lush trees and rugged rocks. There are also many inscriptions, including the "Hua Yue Temple Inscription" from the Later Zhou Dynasty, the "Inscription of Emperor Tang Xuanzong's Mount Hua" recarved in the Ming Dynasty, and the "Mount Hua Sleeping Diagram" carved in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. In addition, there is also a stone plaque inscribed with "Yue Lian Ling Shu" by Emperor Qianlong.
